Tomas Gonzalez, Head of Production at Snack Berries: “We have seen that the varieties that we produce perform better in Plantlogic pots, getting higher yields compared to other containers and bags”

“Its unique design is a plus, also its good drainage and good results in root conformation, has helped us a lot in managing the crop in Snack Berries”

In this article we present Tomas Gonzalez testimonial, Head of Production of the Chilean company Snack Berries, he has relied on Plantlogic’s solutions to produce blueberries in the southern cone. During this interview, we were able to learn first-hand why Snack Berries prefer Plantlogic pots and how our specialized solutions have helped boost their agricultural projects.

 Choosing Plantlogic pots

“We got to know Plantlogic’s specialized products in the United States and in Europe, and with this prior knowledge of their solutions, at Snack Berries we decided to choose this company for its specialty in pots and for its quality, as well as for its commitment and responsibility to growers”, says Gonzales.

Regarding the main problems for growing blueberries in substrate, Gonzales explains: “We have been producing for three years, in which various alternatives have been evaluated, but they have not given us satisfaction in terms of product quality. We have seen that substrate bags last very little and break easily, unlike pots. On the other hand, Plantlogic pots are firm and sturdy, and the crop develops more and better in terms of its root development, due to the shape of the pot and the good drainage they have”.

Reaching Snack Berries´ goals

In order to achieve Snack Berries objectives, “one of the things that we have seen is that Plantlogic constantly innovates, conducting tests to provide always a solution to growers. While it is true that we started our initial project with a generic pot, today and through our experience with Plantlogic solutions we have a wider range to offer our growers, which helps a lot in crop management.

Regarding savings, the fact of constantly using water and that the pot is kept for a longer time is another benefit, since it is not necessary to constantly change the container and having a greater durability will allow you not to spend extra money on changing pots”, explains the production manager.

Speaking of the yields of growing in pots versus growing in substrate bags, Gonzalez argues that the differences are striking.

“Today we have seen that many of the varieties that we produce perform better in Plantlogic pots, having higher yields compared to other containers and bags. Its unique design is a plus, also its good drainage, and the good root conformation, which has helped us a lot in managing the crop in Snack Berries”, he assures.

A guaranteed return on investment

Regarding the return on investment, Gonzalez explains: “We have large number of growers who accompany us in this project with these new blueberry varieties and we always recommend the best products, since we have proven that they give us good results. Whenever we talk with growers, we emphasize the advantages and disadvantages of each type of container and we advise to always use the best in both containers and substrate, in order that they can continue on their own and achieve maximum performance in their crops”.

On the value proposition side and what is most remarkable about Plantlogic, Gonzalez maintains that what he values most today is the personal attention and disposition of their Sales representatives, since they are a great support and constantly introduce them the new designs and solutions developed by Plantlogic. “And all this is reflected in easier management for growers in all areas of crop development and production,” he concludes.
